Hong Kong Reacts to Covid-19

On December 31, 2019, a mysterious unknown pneumonia detected in China was first reported to the WHO Country Office. As families from across the region returned home for Chinese Lunar New Year a month later, panic began to rise.

On January 30, the WHO declared the outbreak to be a Public Health Emergency of International Concern. On March 11, it was officially recognized as a Global Pandemic.

In Hong Kong, haunted by memories of the SARS outbreak in 2003, face masks and hand sanitizers were immediately sold out. As time went on, differing stages of fear and reactions rode out in waves. Tension slowly relaxed - only to be met with a fear for a resurgence of cases.

Reeling from months of anti-government protests, how have this pandemic affected the most vulnerable that are already strained?
